Middle and High School Camp are separated for morning program, but come together during most other activities during the day. Morning program focuses on the daily theme by using scripture study, hands-on activities, and discussion to engage campers and assist them in exploring their own understanding of faith. Additional activities that focus on spiritual development are also offered throughout the week. Both camps also take part in swimming, hikes, sports, games, and workshops.
Camp Nazareth offers both low and high ropes courses. The low course focuses on team building and is accessible to all campers, but the high ropes course is reserved for campers in 9th grade and above.
Meet our 2017 staff
Missy Greene serves as the High School Camp program director. Summer Camp has been a part of her life since the 2nd grade and has been instrumental in her faith formation throughout the years. This will be her 13th year on staff. Missy is the Christian Formation Associate at St. Stephen's in Fairview and is also the Director of Protestant Campus Ministry at Penn State Behrend. In her free time, Missy enjoys traveling, cheering on her favorite sports teams, and all things Harry Potter.
Matthew Scott serves as the program director for the Middle School camp and assistant Music Leader. He is in his third year of camp leadership. Before entering ordained ministry in the church, Matthew was a public school music teacher and still misses working with a room full of 7th grade band kids (except the drummers). Many wonder if he will ever grow up past his usual middle school mentality. Along with his musical skills, Matthew also enjoys sharing his love for the outdoors as an avid backpacker and hiker. He currently serves the churches of the Episcopal Mission of Warren County (Trinity, Warren and St. Francis, Youngsville).
Erin Betz Shank
Erin Betz Shank is a Northwestern Pennsylvania native. She returns to Camp Nazareth after several years of living out of state. She is looking forward to working with staff and students this summer as they learn about God and God's love and creation together. Erin is currently the priest at Trinity Church in New Castle. She and her husband Jason live in Hermitage with their two cats, Phoebe and Sydney. Erin will be on the High School staff.
Elizabeth Yale is new to the diocesan middle school camp staff, but never fear, she has years of being an Episcopal camper, counselor, and staff member at other camps under her belt. As a former children's minister and newly Priest in Charge at St. John's in Franklin, she sees camp as a formative time of community and discernment in the growth of faith in children and youth. In her free time, Elizabeth loves to read, bike, and bake.
